Shoe size conversion chart: US shoe size into EU | Pagonis Greek Sandals

You might know your shoe size in the shoe sizing system of the country or continent you live in, but how to deal with shoes and sizes when shopping online from the other side of the ocean? If you are from the United States, you know e.g. you’re a 9 but how to convert a US shoe size into EU? Are shoe sizes in EU measured in inches? And is there a different range of shoe sizes for men and for women as well? So before you press that “buy” button, take a few minutes to read this article, it includes useful information such as a detailed shoe size conversion chart and will save you from making wrong choices.

The most common U.S. adult shoe sizes range from 4 to 12 in total but these numbers include two different sizing systems for men and women. U.S. women’s sizes range from 4 to 12 and U.S. men’s sizes from 6 to 16 – a woman’s shoe size 7 is smaller than a man’s size 7. Plus, men’s sizes are more wide fit than women’s sizes, which tend to be more narrow. Apart from these differences, the U.S. shoe sizing system has a distinct children and youth shoe sizing range as well.

The European style

For European shoe sizes there is a common sizing system for women, men and children, measured in centimeters. The number, though, does not correspond directly to the size of the shoe. For example, an EU size 37 will not be 37 centimeters long, but will be about 24 centimeters. The range of most common EU sizes starts from 18 to 34 for babies to young kids and from 35 till 50 for adults. All European shoe sizes are unisex so it depends on the fashion details to determine whether the shoe is for women or men. If a pair of shoes size 40 is e.g. neutral sports shoes like total black or white, these will be comfortable for both genders. The last few years more European shoe companies offer options regarding the width of a shoe as well. This is mostly an option for men shoes and women winter shoes.
